Flood-Prone North Cedar Residents Get Help from City Hall

Not surprisingly, residents in the North Cedar area of Cedar Falls are expected to experience flooding over the next few days.  It’s a result of recent rainfall and widespread snow melt.  In addition, the water level upstream is expected to be higher than what the gauge reflects, due to the flood gate being frozen shut. The river is expected to crest around noon tomorrow(Sat).

The addition of the melting snow; is causing streets and yards to flood.  Streets in parts of North Cedar have been closed and several residents have reported water flowing into their basements.

Flood clean-up kits are located in the porch at Fire Station #2, 722 W. Lone Tree Rd.

Sand and sandbags will be available to residents free of charge at the Bluff Street Complex.  The entrance is at 16th and State Street. The sand and bags will be located near the scrap metal bunkers on the east side of the facility. Shovels will be available;however it would be best to bring your own.

Please call the Public Works Department at 319-273-8629 with any questions.
