When burning a big trash pile behind your home, the smoke may attract attention.

Especially if the big trash pile includes marijuana plants and leaves.

Deputies went to a 64-year-old guy’s place in Florida after someone complained about the giant fire in his backyard.

Investigators saw a smoldering pile about 6 feet in diameter and couple feet high behind the home.

The man told officers that it was “just some leaves.” But it reeked like pot…and deputies noticed the remnant of marijuana plants and leaves littered all around the backyard.

When officers asked, “Hey, are you burning marijuana?” His reply was, “I’m only burning the leaves.”

He went on to say, “You don’t smoke that, I’ve got like a quarter pound of it inside my house.”

In the home, investigators found marijuana and drug paraphernalia. When officers said, “You’ve got a bunch of marijuana on your table” the guy responded with “Oh, I’ve got more in the fridge.”

In all, deputies reported finding more than 6 ounces of pot. As officers were arresting the guy, he asked them, “Did you find all my pot?”

He was arrested on charges of possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
