Late Afternoon Fire Damages Duplex in Iowa City

Iowa City firefighters are still trying to figure out what started a fire late yesterday(Tues) afternoon.

The emergency call came in just after 5:30 from the 1200 block of Sandusky Drive, according to a press release from the Iowa City Fire Department.

When crews got to the scene, they found flames and smoke coming from a front window of a single-story duplex. Everyone got out safely.

Crews said they had the fire knocked down in 10 minutes. There was heavy fire, smoke and water damage. An attached unit at 1232 Sandusky also had smoke damage.

There’s no word on the loss estimate and apparently no one was hurt.
