Thank you!! I can’t believe it’s already been 6 months since I moved to Iowa from Seattle to start my new gig here at Rock 108!
I’m overwhelmed by your kindness, your acceptance of a newbie and most of all… your unwavering support. It truly has made my first 6 months AWESOME. I knew NO ONE when I got here. Now, because of you, I feel like I have an extended family, and I mean that in the most real, sincere way! I did NOT expect such kindness! So… THANK YOU!!
I remember moving across country back in July. I rented a moving truck and had a blast driving for 3 days and streaming the new radio station I was about to become a part of.
Here’s my first day on the job back in July 2019!
All anxiety went away once I met my new co-workers. I think they were at ease, too once they met me and I belched in the first 10 minutes. I mean, come on… I work closely with all dudes. I knew that if I was my TRUE self at first, they’d realize I wasn’t some prissy bitch haha! They later told me that they were glad that the daily belching and gutter jokes could continue. I told them that if those things didn’t continue, I couldn’t work here. So yeah… instant bond with the boys.
I can’t say enough good stuff about Ned! Ned and I have a bro/sis type bond. We got each other’s backs 100%, plus we’re both warped minded. He’s super talented, funny as f**k and GOOD people. Plus, I adore his Wife!!
Russ has been a trip! At first I didn’t know what to make of him. I’d never met a PD that spoke with such brutal honesty. By that I mean speaks to me honestly about how I can improve my performance. It’s something I deeply respect about him. He inspires me to keep improving, and never get complacent. I instantly appreciated the fact that he wanted me to be ME. He’s grown on me like aged wine, and I really enjoy his company and respect his advice when he gives it. I’ve learned a ton from him. We always have a blast haha.
Brian Marshall has been so awesome. When I first got here, we worked closely together for 2 weeks. He showed me the ropes of the morning show. We instantly bonded, and he won’t quit buying me Twizzlers, which I appreciate. He’s so frickin’ funny and smart. His jokes always go straight over my head haha!
“Locally Owned By a Woman Named Mary”. Mary Quass, our CEO has been nothing but loving to me since I arrived! Not many CEO’s go out of their way to say hi to you and give you hugs when they’re around. Mary does those things. She such a strong, hip woman and I admire the crap out of her. Her assistant, Mary Preston is a gem as well. “MP” as we call her has an undying love for Volbeat! MP is basically the ‘mom’ of the station. Always bringing in goodies to eat and tending to our needs if we feel sick. Wonderful human being she is.
Then there’s Jeff Winfield, our Operations Manager! This dude knows Radio inside and out. Super rad guy. Jeff is now part of our ‘new music meetings’ on Fridays. That’s where Russ, Jeff, Ned and myself sit down and listen to new songs to add to rotation. Jeff hasn’t come out and said this, but by our meetings I have the feeling he’s a FFDP fan.
Also props to Craig and Shawn on our sister station. I’m around them quite often. Craig and I are here together every day in the wee hours of the morning, and he enjoys scaring me on a regular basis, usually not intentionally. Shawn is a dear friend, and also part of my belching crew haha!! I adore Shawn and his free spirited nature.
I’ve very much enjoyed all the road trips I’ve taken around Iowa. I must say that this damn frying pan is still one of my favorite sites!
Here are some random pics over the last 6 months.
It’s crazy in a good way how everything has simply fallen into place here. I am so grateful for everything!! AND like I said in the beginning of this blog, thank YOU for being my family!!
