Don't End up like Bieber. Run Track

Wednesday, Feb, 5 2014

A central Iowa high school is trying to convince girls to go out for track and field by warning them not to turn out like troubled pop star Justin Bieber.

Ankeny Centennial High School has posted a tongue-in-cheek flyer sporting one of Bieber's latest police mug shots. It reads: ``Justin Bieber never ran track. Now he's in jail. Coincidence? Don't Beliebe it. Don't end up like Bieber. Run track.''

Penny for your two million thoughts?

Tuesday, Feb, 4 2014

Over 30 years ago, a man inherited an odd, silver-colored penny from his father. Turns out he was sitting on a fortune.

He finally got around to looking into the coin took it to a coin shop, where he sold it to the store’s owner. That’s when the shop owner found out the coin was actually a never-before-seen 1974-D aluminum penny from the Denver Mint. Then the shop owner did something very cool. He decided to let the original owner know he hadn’t paid nearly enough for what the coin was actually worth and gave it back
The coin will be auctioned in Chicago this April. It could be worth up to $2 million.
The original owner and the coin shop owner have agreed to split the jackpot and on top of that, will donate up to $100,000 to local homeless programs.

***I read that in 1973 and 1974, over 1.5 million aluminum pennies were made at the Philadelphia Mint. Only about 10 were made at the Denver mint. All but 126 of the coins were destroyed. Some of the coins were given to congressmen, but later they were asked to return them. Currently, the estimated number of unaccounted aluminum pennies is between 5 and 13.
