Remembering Jimmy V

Tuesday, Dec, 17 2013

Personally, I'm not a fan of ESPN other than watching a game, mainly Monday Night Football or College Basketball. One thing I will give ESPN all the credit in the world for is their backing of the Jimmy V Foundation, a foundation supporting Cancer Research.

For those that don't know, Jim Valvano was a College Basketball Coach at North Carolina State. His team won the 1983 NCAA Championship but he may be best known for his inspirational speech at the 1993 ESPY awards, 8 weeks before he died of cancer.

Right now, 4 Men's teams and 4 Women's teams are competing in the Jimmy V classic in New York City. What I enjoy the most is ESPN plays Jim Valvano's speech from the '93 ESPY awards before the games. A speech that still gives me chills. If you've never seen the speech, please take some time to watch it. You will forever be inspired.
