4″ To 8″ Of Snow Is Coming – What To Expect

By Tim Martin Dec 29, 2020 | 3:18 AM

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning starting at Noon today (Tuesday), through Noon tomorrow (Wednesday).

We can expect widespread 4-8″, coming down heavily, starting in the early afternoon. Some spots will exceed 8″.

Meteorologist, Kaj O’Mara with KCRG-TV said we will get hammered with heavy snowfall coming down at 1″ per hour (or more), which is going to make it very difficult, if not impossible to see while driving.  He STRONGLY encourages everyone to get stuff done this morning, then stay off the roads this afternoon.  Conditions will become very hazardous very quick.  Also, with it being a weekday, the afternoon and evening commute will get very dangerous because of the heavy population.  He said expect the snow to fall until around 10:00 pm tonight.

The Iowa Department of Transportation said it will have around 300 plows out for the potential snowstorm in eastern Iowa.

FYI, if you order your groceries online for store pickup, expect longer lines than usual today.  Stores are getting slammed right now with online orders in preparation for the storm.

Get your errands done this morning, then stay off the roads if possible this afternoon into evening!  Be safe!
