There have been MANY Mario Kart games, but to me, this one was always the gold standard.
24 years ago, Mario Kart 64 graced our presence on the Nintendo 64, and it’s still fun as hell today! There have been many Mario Kart games since this one, but I feel like they all kinda ‘worked off’ of Mario Kart 64.
Mario Kart 64 was the first time that we could roll 4 players on one TV in Battle courses….it was a freakin’ blast. Anytime I break out Mario Kart 64 with friends, each friend always has a character they MUST play and a course that they MUST play on. Plus anytime you mention the Nintendo 64 to someone, they remember 2 games….Goldeneye and Mario Kart.
Since then Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has popped up on Switch, and by all means…it’s much better than Mario Kart 64. But something about 64 keeps bringing me back. Maybe it’s the nostalgia of it or ease of play, but it’s just fun to pop in that cart.
