Video Gaming Back in the Day Was a Easier Experience

By Ned Sep 13, 2021 | 1:41 PM

Yea I said it.

Gaming on older game consoles today and older gaming experiences are just better, and that’s coming from the gaming extraordinaire that is me.

Today’s video games are great, don’t get me wrong, but there is always some kind of thing either in the way or the community just sucks, and personally I blame the internet (for a lot of things, but we’re focusing on gaming).

Back then, there was Nintendo, Sega, and Sony (later on…but work with me), and that was it! The only REAL battle of gaming was who was better? Genesis or Super Nintendo? You bought a game or rented, and that was it…it was either good or bad, there were no consistent updates, storage capacity, streaming, etc….you know what? Here is what annoys the hell out of me from today gaming.

  • Online bullying
  • Internet drops
  • Constant updates
  • Updates that take hours to complete
  • People just getting a little too personal about gaming
  • Gaming addiction
  • Battle Royale games
  • Overheating hardware
  • Gaming Elitism
  • Constant remasters and ports (Grand Theft Auto 5?)
  • Game Console Scalpers
  • Physical media just becoming an empty disk with a code
  • The never ending amount of First Person shooters
  • Lack of sufficient storage

I know, I’m sounding like the old guy, cause I f&*&ing am!….but seriously man….there are plenty of times where I pop on my PS4 to play Doom Eternal for just a bit, then I pop in the disk…then the dreaded ‘Added to Downloads’ update…total time? 3 hours!!! It’s like screw this man…just give me a dumb cartridge game and I’ll play the same game for the 900th time.

At least I know it works and I don’t have to wait.

There are of course exceptions….some of the BEST games have come out in the recent years like God of War and they’re freakin’ works of art! But where God of War shines, it’s overshadowed by the PUBG’s and Fornite’s that I personally just can’t get into.
