After 12 straight quarters of earnings declines, Deere & Company this(Fri) morning posted an earnings increase for the 3 months ending April 30th and a 62% increase from the second quarter a year ago.

In raw numbers, for the just-ended February/March/April period, Deere posted earnings of $802.4-million, or $2.49 per share, compared to $495.5-million, or $1.56 per share for the same period a year ago.

Deere spokesman Ken Golden says it’s the company’s best second quarter since 2014 and one of the top five or six quarterly showings ever.

Asked if the showing will mean further callbacks of 600 to 700 Deere Waterloo workers still on indefinite layoff, Golden declined to predict specific numbers, saying that some people have already been brought back, and that Deere will continue to balance the work for the market demand.
