Mother Nature wasn’t cooperating with plans for an outdoor ceremony, so UNI officials yesterday(Tues) afternoon went inside to unveil a new tennis complex on the northeast side of the campus.

The price-tag was about $1 ½-million, but it’s a joint venture with the City of Cedar Falls, the Cedar Falls School District and the local tennis & pickle ball clubs…and a third of the cost of construction of the 9-court complex was picked up by the Black Hawk County Gaming Association.

Cedar Falls High School’s Joey Schneider is a 3-year letter winner in tennis and he thanked everyone responsible for the new, top-flight courts…..

Claire Struck is a Cedar Valley tennis and Pickle Ball aficionado, player and coach, and she talked about the summer tennis program for kids and about Pickle Ball, which she described as a cross between tennis and ping-pong, and usually played in doubles.
