Super Mario Bros. is 35 Brick Breaking Years Old!

By Tim Martin Sep 14, 2020 | 12:56 PM

35 years.

35 years ago, video games were just considered a fad…and then something named the Nintendo Entertainment System showed up in the States and reinvigorated the video game market again, and leading the charge was a little plumber named Mario. 35 years ago today, Super Mario Bros was released for the Japanese game console, The Famicom, which then made its way to the good ‘ol USA.

It’s interesting to think where video games would be without Super Mario, maybe at some point something would have come along to reinvigorate the industry, but it didn’t! It was Mario!

The original Super Mario Bros. to this day is a game that no matter how old you are, you can get into it. Run to the right, avoid Goombas and Koopas, pull the flag down and move to the next level. It’s fun, enjoyable, and has the most iconic video game theme of all time.

Gaming may be loaded with people that don’t ‘get’ Mario these days as they are busy with Fornite, Call of Duty, etc…and many of those younger gamers consider Mario a ‘Kids Game’ (and truthfully that’s how it’s marketed) But Mario is just plain old fun…whether he’s having a party, driving a cart, or whatever…Mario stands for what video gaming was always meant to be…FUN! I’m never frustrated when playing a Mario game, that’s what makes him work so damn well.
