LINKIN PARK ADDED TO MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS
MTV has just announced that Linkin Park will perform their new single, “The Catalyst,” for the first time ever during the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. The song is off the band’s forthcoming album, A Thousand Suns. The group will join previously confirmed performers including Usher, Paramore, Eminem, Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Drake, B.o.B, Florence + The Machine. Chelsea Handler hosts the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, which air live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 12th at 9 PM 

BILLE JOE BROADWAY Q&A
Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong is gonna be in New York later this month for a question and answer session. VEDDER AND SMITH PERFORM WITH JOHNNY DEPP
There was quite an interesting jam at the West Memphis Three Benefit in Little Rock, Arkansas on Saturday. During the show, Eddie Vedder and Patti Smith performed Smith’s song “People Have the Power,” with actor Johnny Depp playing guitar. Fan filmed footage of the performance can be found on YouTube 

SCOTT WEILAND CLOTHING LINE
Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland has always been a stylish guy, and now he’s using his fashion know-how to start his own clothing line. Weiland for English Laundry launched in Canada this weekend. The collection features vests, t-shirts, pants, hats, ties, scarves and more. We’ll keep you posted as to when you can buy Weiland’s threads here in the States 

SLASH FILES FOR DIVORCE
Slash has filed for divorce from his wife of nearly nine years, Perla Ferrar. According to TMZ, in the court papers, Slash cites irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. He also lists the date of separation as July 15th. Sources close to couple say that the split could get ugly and, since the legendary guitarist didn’t sign a pre-nup, it could be costly for him. Slash and Perla have two sons together, ages six and eight, and Slash is seeking joint physical and legal custody. Read more at TMZ.com. 

ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN IN A FOO STUDIO SESSION
We can expect to hear a new Foo Fighters album before year’s end or in early 2011 as the band is currently recording it in studio. Drummer Taylor Hawkins says they went in with 30 songs, but there is no telling what can happen once they enter the studio . THE FUTURE OF AEROSMITH IS UNKNOWN
The future of Aerosmith is unknown. Guitarist Joe Perry revealed to Cincinnati.com that with their current tour and the recent news that singer Steven Tyler will likely be a judge on the upcoming season of American Idol, the band is “a little worn out.” Perry added, “The tour is winding up, and we don’t know when we’ll work again as a band. GN’R’S READING FESTIVAL SHOW CUT SHORT
Guns N’ Roses were warned that if they took the stage late at Friday night’s Reading Festival in England then they would be cut off due to local curfew laws. Well, the band came on an hour tardy and, as promised, they were forced to end their set at midnight. The event’s organizers pulled the plugs on the rockers but that didn’t stop the music. Even though they didn’t have power, the group still performed “Paradise City” with no instruments and with Axl Rose singing through a megaphone. GN’R are mad at the promoters but, in a Twitter post, guitarist D.J. Ashba stated, “They pulled the power, but failed to kill the connection as 90-thousand people sang ‘Paradise City.’” Footage of the band refusing to leave the stage can be found on YouTube.

SLASH FILMS VIDEO WITH FERGIE
Slash spent Friday with singer Fergie, filming the video to his song with her, “Beautiful Dangerous.” The former Guns N’ Roses guitarist tweeted that the concept of the clip is “twisted” and was actually Fergie’s idea. He later wrote that Fergie “is pulling out all the stops” for the video and shows a side of her “not too often seen.” No word on when the visual will be available but you can stay up to date by following Slash at Twitter.com/Slash

COURTNEY LOVE SETTLES YET ANOTHER LAWSUIT
According to Billboard, Courtney Love and U-K management company London and Company have settled a lawsuit over money earned through the rights to Nirvana songs. The company sued Love, claiming she did not give over money owed after the publishing rights to the group’s music was sold a few years back. It is estimated that around 20-million dollars was raised in the sale.

Green Day embarked on a U-S tour alongside AFI this month, but the guys have been working on new music throughout 2010. When will we hear the new sounds? Bassist Mike Dirnt says that’s up to the music 

GEEZER BUTLER IS UP FOR A SABBATH REUNION
Geezer Butler is the latest Black Sabbath member to discuss a reunion. The bassist told Hellbound.ca that he “wouldn’t say no” to a reunion, adding, “You know it would be nice to finish the whole thing off with one last tour.” Butler explained that the guys are all “getting a bit old now” so “time is running out.” Geezer, drummer Bill Ward and singer Ozzy Osbourne have all expressed interest in reuniting, but Ozzy said he’s too busy to do it anytime in the next year and a half. 

STEVEN TYLER FALLS OFF STAGE AGAIN
Last August, Steven Tyler fell from the stage during an Aerosmith show, injuring his shoulder and derailing the band’s tour and eventually causing a strife within the group when he later said he planned to go solo for a few years. It didn’t happen and the band got back together but when they played in Toronto Tuesday night, Tyler fell off the stage again, and this time it looks like guitarist Joe Perry had something to do with it. As the group performed “Love in an Elevator,” Steven playfully bumped Joe. Joe returned the bump but sent Tyler falling into the crowd. The singer eventually got up and announced, “It Ain’t gonna happen again baby!” Check out video of the incident on TMZ.com. 

FOO FIGHTERS FINALLY IN STUDIO
Foo Fighters have finally entered the studio to work on their new album, the follow-up to 2007’s Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace. Yesterday (8/17) on Twitter, the band posted pictures from the studio where they are making the record. The band is reportedly working with Nevermind producer Butch Vig on the effort. DISTURBED HEADING TO CINEMAS
Disturbed release their new album Asylum on August 31st, but before they do, the Chicago band is thanking fans for a decade of loyalty with a cinematic release. STONE SOUR STREAM NYC SHOW
Stone Sour will be celebrating the release of their upcoming album, Audio Secrecy, with a special show in New York. The band will be playing The Studio at Webster Hall on August 30th and the show will be streamed live on StoneSour.com starting at 8:30 PM Eastern. The guys will be playing songs off Audio Secrecy, which comes out on September 7th 

MANSON AND WOOD OFF AGAIN?
A source told People.com that Marilyn Manson and Evan Rachel Wood have called off their engagement. The pair has split up multiple times during their relationship, which began back in 2006. We’ll keep you posted as to what’s going on with these lovebirds. 

SOME PINK FLOYD ALBUMS NO LONGER AVAILABLE ONLINE
The Wall, Wish You Were Here, The Final Cut and Animals might be among Pink Floyd’s best albums, but if you’re looking to buy them as digital downloads, it isn’t going to happen. The New York Times reports that all the post-Dark Side of the Moon titles, which EMI distributes, have been pulled from digital retailers after EMI’s contract covering the albums expired on June 30th. Because EMI has surplus stock it can sell off, physical copies of the records are still available but until a new contract is signed, new ones will probably not be manufactured. However, the band’s earlier albums can still be bought online and on CD. No word yet on when Pink Floyd will sign a new contract.

CORGAN DOES POISON COVER WITH CAMP FREDDY
Camp Freddy, the L-A based jam band with Dave Navarro, former Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum, ex-Cult bassist Billy Morrison, and Donovan’s son, Donovan Leitch, performed this past weekend at a party for the X-Games in L-A and were joined by Smashing Pumpkins singer Billy Corgan. The group sang a cover of Poison’s “Every Rose has Its Thorn” plus some Pumpkins classics. Godsmack’s Sully Erna also joined the band for Led Zeppelin, Alice in Chains and Sex Pistols covers. SEE HALFORD ON PRIVATE SESSIONS
Judas Priest fans – clear your plans for Sunday morning. That’s because at 9 AM, A&E’s Private Sessions will focus on the band. On the show, singer Rob Halford will chat with host Lynn Hoffman, sharing stories from the road, explaining metal therapy and talking about releases. Then, he’ll perform some classics. Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider and Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister also make surprise guest appearances. It all happens at 9 AM Eastern this Sunday on A&E. 

SOUNDGARDEN TO RELEASE RETROSPECTIVE
Soundgarden will headline Lollapalooza in Chicago this weekend and play an intimate show in the Windy City tomorrow night, but the reunited band also has a release coming your way. Rolling Stone reports that the band will release a career retrospective called Telephantasm in September. The compilation will initially be released as part of the Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock videogame on September 28th and will feature a never before released track titled “Black Rain.” The band also plans to release a DVD of never-before-seen videos in the near future.

SLIPKNOT CANNOT FATHOM WHAT TO DO NOW
Corey Taylor, who fronts Slipknot, said the band “cannot fathom” what to do after the death of their bassist, Paul Gray. Taylor told NME it’s too soon to tell what the future of the band will be now that “such a big piece of that puzzle is gone.” Taylor releases a new album with his other band, Stone Sour, next month.
 

GODSMACK DID THEIR TIME ON THE ROAD

AN AC/DC LIVE ALBUM
AC/DC plan to put out a live album soon. Singer Brian Johnson revealed the news last week on BBC Radio, saying that the band will “probably bring a live album out” in the near future. You can listen to the entire interview now at BBC.co.uk. 

SLASH TO RECORD AUSTRALIAN SHOWS
When Slash played in Manchester, England recently, he recorded the shows and immediately put them on CD so that folks in attendance and those who couldn’t make the gig could hear it either all over again or for the first time. Now, the former Guns N’ Roses guitarist plans to do the same for his upcoming gigs in Australia. McKAGAN AND McCREADY THROW A HOOTENANNY
Next month, Duff McKagan and Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready will bring out a bunch of their friends for a fundraising concert in Seattle. It’s called the Hootenanny for a Healthy Gulf and takes place on September 2nd at the Moore Theatre. Along with performances from the rockers and their musical friends, the event will also include a silent auction, a raffle and an audience sing-a-long, with proceeds benefitting the Gulf Restoration Network, a non-profit organization working to make the coastal communities whole again in the wake of the oil spill. Linkin Park’s new single, “The Catalyst,” will premiere this weekend in the trailer for the Medal of Honor videogame. The song is off Linkin Park’s new album, A Thousand Suns, which comes out in September. MTV News reports that this is the beginning of a new relationship between the band and EA Games, and although nothing has been announced, they will work together again in the future. SLIPKNOT WONT REPLACE PAUL GRAY
According to Blabbermouth.net, Slipknot does not plan on replacing bassist Paul Gray. Drummer Joey Jordison says that they’ll be covering bass parts on any recordings they do, rather than replace their late bassist, who died of an accidental drug overdose earlier this year. We’ll keep you posted on when Slipknot plan on recording but the band says it will likely be sometime in 2012 

AVENGED OPEN UP ABOUT “THE REV”
Avenged Sevenfold singer M. Shadows opened up to the L-A Times about the sudden death of their drummer, Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, late last year. Shadows said the band would “camp out at each other’s houses” during their grief and would just order food, watch movies, sleep and watch videos. He reveals that every bit of their brand new album Nightmare was written before “The Rev” passed. The band later recruited Dream Theatre drummer Mike Portnoy to play Sullivan’s parts and eventually released the record this week. The band could be on track to have the number one album in the country next week. We’ll be sure to keep you posted. 

SLAYER DVDS WILL BE BACK ON SHELVES SOON
For some time now, all of Slayer’s concert DVDs have been out of print, but that will all change soon. Next month, 2003’s War at the Warfield and 2004’s Still Reigning will both be reissued and, for the first time ever, 1995’s Live Intrusion will be released on DVD. CHEVELLE CELEBRATE 10 YEARS
Chevelle are celebrating 10 years as a band this year with two special shows. The band is set to perform at the Metro in Chicago on October 28th and 29th. The venue is special to the group as it’s where they got their start a decade ago. Chevelle are out on the Carnival of Madness tour right now.

AVENGED WANT FANS TO REMEMBER “THE REV”
Avenged Sevenfold put out their new album, Nightmare, this week, their first since the passing of their drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan late last year. In an interview with Billboard, singer M. Shadows said the future of the band is still unclear explaining, “We’re not sure what’s going to happen after this touring cycle. Our goal right now is just get kids to hear the record, because we want them to remember the Rev.” 

MORE DIO TRIBUTES FROM HEAVEN & HELL?
The surviving members of Heaven & Hell performed what they said would be a one-off show this past weekend in tribute to their fallen bandmate, Ronnie James Dio, who died in May from stomach cancer. Now, however, there is word of a possible show in Los Angeles as well as a tribute album. Former Deep Purple singer Glenn Hughes, who helped with the vocals at this weekend’s concert, told England’s Express & Star newspaper that there will be a Dio tribute album “with some megastars” to raise funds for the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund. Hughes also revealed that a major show that’ll take place in L-A in March will benefit the charity too. Read more at ExpressAndStar.com 

SIXX: VINCE’S ARREST WON’T AFFECT TOURING
Late last month, Vince Neil was arrested in Las Vegas for DUI but the incident won’t affect Motley Crue’s participation in this year’s Ozzfest. Nikki Sixx told the Artisan News Service that the arrest won’t affect their touring at all. The rocker added, “We all struggle with different demons in our life and I think that Vince is not unlike anyone else in the band. He handles his affairs in the way that’s right for him to handle them.” Vince has struggled with addiction for years. Learn about his battles in his new book, Tattoos & Tequila, which is out now.

OZZY GETS FITTED FOR NEW HEARING AIDS
Ozzy Osbourne is hearing things a little better today. According to the Pioneer Press, the Prince of Darkness was fitted with new hearing aids this week. It happened before the star-studded tenth annual Starkey Hearing Foundation Gala in St. Paul Minnesota. The event, which honored Muhammad Ali, Steve Martin, singer Sam Moore and others, raised millions of dollars to help distribute hearing aids to underprivileged children across the globe. ADLER DISCUSSES A GUNS N’ ROSES REUNION
So will there or won’t there be a Guns N’ Roses reunion? Steven Adler is the latest former member of the group to address its possibility, telling Billboard.com, “I know the four of us besides Axl would love to do it.” Adler added, “I know besides millions and millions and hundreds of millions of dollars that would be involved, I think if we played for the whole world, it would be such a relief, like ‘God, they’re finally playing.’ It’s what so many people really want.” You can read more about Steven in his new autobiography, My Appetite for Destruction: Sex & Drugs & Guns N’ Roses. SLASH ASKED MYLES TO SING FOR VELVET REVOLVER
Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy is currently on the road, providing vocals for Slash as the rocker tours behind his new solo album. So if Slash likes Myles’ voice so much, why doesn’t he hire him to sing for Velvet Revolver? Well it turns out, the ex-Guns N’ Roses guitarist offered the job to Myles and he turned it down. GUNS N’ ROSES TO PLAY FIRST U-S SHOW IN FOUR YEARS
Guns N’ Roses have scheduled their first U-S concert in four years. The band is set to perform at the inaugural Rock ‘N Rev Festival during the Sturgis Rally in South Dakota. The group will headline on August 13th, the fifth and final night of the event, marking their only American date this year. COBAIN BIOPIC TO BE “RAW AND CHAOTIC”
The man behind a new Kurt Cobain biopic, director Oren Moverman, says the film will be “raw and chaotic.” Moverman, who directed the Bob Dylan film I’m Not There, told The Guardian that the Cobain movie will be more linear and will tell fans more about the Nirvana singer than his rise to fame and struggle with drug use. Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love, is producing the movie

Proceeds from the Rage Against the Machine concert in Los Angeles on Friday will go to organizations fighting Arizona’s new immigration laws. WILL BUSH SOUND DIFFERENT?
Will the new incarnation of Bush sound like the nineties band we knew and loved? Singer Gavin Rossdale says he hopes that they’ve evolved on their upcoming album, Golden State, and explained that he was “mindful” of not repeating himself this time around. The album is expected out later this year, but its first single, “Afterlife,” is out now.

WARD: SABBATH REUNION COULD HAPPEN
Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward revealed he speaks with Ozzy Osbourne often, but the Prince of Darkness never brings up reuniting the old band. Ward told Sonic Excess, “I talk to Ozzy all the time, and he hasn’t mentioned s**t to me about Sabbath.” That doesn’t mean anyone is against a reunion. Ozzy has previously said he’ll “never say never” about one and Bill said, “It would be great.” However, with Bill, Ozzy, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler all doing their own things now, Ward says he’s not sure when it could happen. On August 31st, Disturbed put out their new album, Asylum, and they’ve just shot a video for the title track. The Chicago band worked with director Roboshobo on the clip. The group will kick off the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival on August 17th in Minneapolis with Avenged Sevenfold, Stone Sour and Halestorm. Asylum is out on August 31st 

BEHIND-THE-SCENES OF STONE SOUR’S NEW SINGLE
Stone Sour has revealed behind the scenes footage from the recording sessions for “Say You’ll Haunt Me” off their upcoming new album, Audio Secrecy. Director Paul R. Brown, who has worked with Slipknot, Korn and others in the past, will direct the video for the single. Audio Secrecy is out on September 7th

Elton John appears in an unlikely place, playing piano on “Black Gives Way To Blue,” the title track off Alice in Chains’ latest album. Drummer Sean Kinney sings the legend’s praise  Alice in Chains’ Black Gives Way to Blue has sold over 500-thousand copies to date. 

SERGIO VEGA LOVES THE DEFTONES
Sergio Vega of Quicksand fame joined the Deftones in January 2009, filling in for bassist Chi Cheng, who is still in a semi-conscious state after a car accident in November 2008. Vega loves being in the band and jokes that he pays them so he can stay a part of the group . Deftones play Ventura, California on August 6th. 

THE RETURN OF BRAD
It’s been eight years, but BRAD is set to release a new album on August 10th. It’s titled Best Friends? and once again features Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard on guitar, bassist Mike Berg, Shawn Smith on vocals and piano and Satchel’s Regan Hagar on drums. NEW LINKIN PARK AROUND THE CORNER
In less than a month, Linkin Park are set to drop the first single off their upcoming new album. It’s a track called “The Catalyst” and will start spinning across the airwaves on August 2nd. The single is off their Rick Rubin produced new record, A Thousand Suns, which is out on September 14th

TRENT REZNOR TO BE A DAD
Nine Inch Nails singer Trent Reznor and his wife are expecting their first child. According to Women’s Wear Daily, 29-year-old Mariqueen Maandig and the 49-year-old rocker are about to be first time parents. Blabbermouth.net is reporting that Mariqueen posted on her private Facebook page that she’s due to give birth on October 10th. Trent and Maandig were engaged in 2009 and married that October.

STAIND START NEW ALBUM
Staind are looking towards the future and have announced they’ll begin work on their seventh studio album this fall. Frontman Aaron Lewis told Blabbermouth.net that while he’s already finished his debut solo disc, he won’t release it until Staind’s next album comes out, because this seventh album will fulfill the band’s obligation to their current label. As of now, no title or release date has been announced for the seventh disc 

SLASH TO PERFORM AT SUNSET STRIP MUSIC FESTIVAL
Next month, Slash will be honored at the third annual Sunset Strip Music Festival and now, the rocker has announced he will also perform at the event. The former Guns N’ Roses guitarist will take the stage on August 28th with help from Fergie and Alterbridge singer Myles Kennedy, who both appear on Slash’s new self-titled solo album. ANTHRAX AND SLAYER WANT MORE BIG FOUR DATES
Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian and Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo are still talking about the Sonisphere Festival shows last month when their bands performed along with Metallica and Megadeth, marking the first time metal’s Big Four shared a stage. The pair told the festival’s website that they “really hope the future of the Big Four continues.” Lombardo stated, “I hope we do a worldwide tour and other planets even.” Ian added, “We hear the rumor on the Internet that there will be more Big Four shows and as far as rumors go, it’s one of the best ones I’ve heard lately.” Read more at UK.SonisphereFestivals.com. 

LARS ULRICH’S GOAL IS TO STAY ALIVE
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has revealed what his current goal is – to stay alive. The rocker told the Sonisphere Festival website that “right now the main thing is to not have a heart attack on stage. That’s the new goal.” Lars explained that he’s 46 and trying to stay healthy by eating well, working out and staying fit. SHINEDOWN’S CREATIVE JUICES FLOWING
Shinedown say they won’t begin work on a new album till 2011, but according to singer Brent Smith, certain members of the band have already begun to get their creative juices flowing. For now, Shinedown’s Sound of Madness album is still going strong, and the band kicks off the Carnival of Madness tour in Jacksonville, Florida on July 16th. 

AVENGED SEVENFOLD TALK ALBUM
Avenged Sevenfold have recorded their first album since their drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan died of an accidental overdose back in December. Sevenfold guitarist Zacky Vengeance told Rolling Stone that almost all of the album was written before “The Rev” died, so recording the songs without him was the hardest thing they’ve had to do. Vengeance goes on to call the effort “the darkest, the coldest, most numb album” saying they laid down most of the tracks with tears in their eyes. Nightmare is due in stores on July 27th. Limp Bizkit’s new album Gold Cobra is supposed to be released before the end of the year, and Fred Durst and Wes Borland are talking about the new effort. In the wake of bassist Paul Gray’s unexpected passing, Slipknot say their future is not certain at the moment and it will be at least two years till we’ll hear from the band again. Singer Corey Taylor is still busy though, with a new Stone Sour album coming out in September. He says they aimed high with the record, which is titled Audio Secrecy . Audio Secrecy is out on September 7th.


COURTNEY LOVE MELTDOWN
It seems Courtney Love is still capable of major meltdowns. The Washington Post reports that the Hole singer’s recent performance at the 9:30 Club in D.C. got out of control as she was ranting, attacking her critics, name-dropping and even went topless by the end of the set. Love also reportedly singled out an African American fan in the audience saying, “Do you really like rock music? Because you’re African American. A VAN HALEN ALBUM ON THE WAY?
Could Van Halen be working on a new album? The folks at MelodicRock.com reached out to what they’re calling a very credible source close to the band who told them that the guys are “working towards finishing recording” a new studio album with singer David Lee Roth. The insider revealed that the record would come out during the first half of 2011 but the first single should be out before the end of this year. The source added that the relationship between Eddie Van Halen and David “remains as complex as ever” but everyone wants to get a new CD on shelves. Read more at MelodicRock.com. 

STEVEN TYLER LIKES TO MAKE UP
Anyone who was nervous that Aerosmith are still on rocky ground after nearly parting ways with singer Steven Tyler should read what the rocker had to say in a new story in Billboard magazine. In the latest issue, Tyler explained, “The f**k yous run deep in a band like Aerosmith and the best part about it is the make-up. BEHIND-THE-SCENES ON NEW APOCALYPTICA VIDEO
Apocalyptica just shot a video for their new song, “End of Me,” the first single off their upcoming album, 7th Symphony. The track features Bush singer Gavin Rossdale, who also appears in the video. Behind the scenes footage of the shoot can be seen now online, followed by the clip’s online debut tomorrow. 7th Symphony is out on August 24th

JIMMY PAGE SUED FOR COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT 
A folk singer is suing Jimmy Page, alleging that the Led Zeppelin guitarist stole one of his songs for the band’s 1969 classic “Dazed and Confused.” In a federal lawsuit, folk singer Jake Holmes claims that in 1967, he got a copyright for his tune, “Dazed and Confused,” two years before Zep recorded their song by the same name, which also sounds very similar to Jake’s version. Unfortunately for Holmes, even if a court agrees that Zep stole from him, he can only sue for damages from the last three years due to a statue of limitations. TMZ.com has posted the two tracks so you can compare how similar they are.

VINCE NEIL’S ALBUM DEBUTS AT 57
Vince Neil has been in the news a lot lately, first for releasing his new solo album, Tattoos & Tequila, and then for being arrested for a DUI. Well now, we know how the Motley Crue singer’s CD did. OZZY’S LATEST CD BREAKS BILLBOARD 200 TOP FIVE
Ozzy Osbourne’s latest album, Scream, has debuted in the top five of the Billboard 200 chart. According to Nielsen SoundScan, 81-thousand copies of the record were sold, giving the effort the number four spot on the chart. While this is good news, the Prince of Darkness’ previous album, Black Rain, moved 152-thousand copies in its first week out in 2007. 2001’s Down to Earth sold 153-thousand units. 

OZZY PICKS UNSIGNED BAND TO OPEN FOR HIM
Ozzy Osbourne is playing the iTunes Festival in London on Saturday and held a contest to find an opening act. Well there is a winner and it is a group called The Black Spiders. According to The Press Association, the Prince of Darkness picked the winners himself from a short list of ten unsigned acts that entered the competition through MySpace

STONE SOUR MAKE BEST ALBUM YET
Stone Sour will return on September 7th with their first new album in almost four years. The band made the track “Mission Statement” available for download on their website last week for just 48 hours and over 50-thousand people ripped the song. Singer Corey Taylor told Billboard he feels Audio Secrecy is “the most well-rounded and diverse album I’ve ever been able to make.” Corey told us .Audio Secrecy is out September 7th. 

UNRELEASED SOUNDGARDEN SONG FOR GUITAR HERO
Soundgarden is set to put out a previously unreleased track titled “Black Rain” via Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. Rolling Stone reports that it’s unclear if the song is new or from the band’s back catalog. No word yet if the track will come out separately from the video game. Soundgarden play the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago on August 8th 

FOO FIGHTER GOES AMERICANA FOR SIDE PROJECT
Chris Shiflett, best known as guitarist for the Foo Fighters, has a new side project. His new band, The Dead Peasants, will release their debut album on July 12th and it’s described as “Americana, classic country and rockabilly.” Fans can find out where The Dead Peasants will be playing next at FooFighters.com 

IOMMI TALKS ABOUT HEAVEN AND HELL TRIBUTE
On July 24th, the surviving members of Heaven & Hell will perform at England’s High Voltage festival as a tribute to late singer Ronnie James Dio, and guitarist Tony Iommi is now talking about the event. According to Blabbermouth.net, the rocker explained that it will be the “first and only tribute to Ronnie” adding, “Not that that’s wrong, but we feel that it would be really nice to do this for him. And he’d really like that, I know he would.” As of now, Deep Purple’s Glenn Hughes and Masterplan’s Jorn Lande are stepping in on vocals but Tony said there is a chance others might sing as well. SLASH CAN SEE WHY AXL THINKS HE’S A “CANCER
Recently, Axl Rose reportedly called his former Guns N’ Roses bandmate Slash a “cancer” and now, the guitarist is responding to the insult. While promoting his new solo album, Slash told England’s Telegraph that the comment was “sorta funny” and that he’s thought about it and it might be true. The rocker explained, “I’m around a lot so to him I probably am a cancer. SLASH WANTED JACKSON ON ALBUM
Slash got a lot of guest vocalists to help him out on his new solo album, but the guitarist has now revealed that he also wanted Michael Jackson to lend his voice to the set. According to AceShowbiz.com, Slash said, “When I was thinking about who I wanted to work with, Michael crossed my mind. I thought about doing something that would see him totally cross over into rock.” Slash said this was all around the time Jackson was rehearsing for his series of London shows so he just assumed Michael wouldn’t have had the time. The former Guns N’ Roses guitarist went on to say that he never saw the Jackson film This Is It because he didn’t want to “have anything to do with everybody capitalizing on his death.” Slash played lead solos on a handful of Jackson’s hits including “Give Into Me” and “Black or White.”

KORN TO PLAY U-K OZZFEST
There will be an Ozzfest this year overseas and according to Rock Sound magazine, along with a set from Ozzy Osbourne, the event will boast Korn, Murderdolls and Skindred. The magazine reports that the U-K Ozzfest will take place on September 18th at London’s O2 Arena. Learn more at RockSound.tv.

KORN BOYCOTT BP
Korn has announced that they will boycott BP gasoline while out on tour this summer. The band will not fuel any of their touring vehicles with BP products, in the wake of the devastating oil spill in the Gulf, and Korn is urging fellow bands to do the same. Singer Jonathan Davis takes a stand saying, “We need to do our part to let BP know there are consequences for causing something like this.” Korn’s new album, Korn III- Remember Who You Are, is out on July 13th 

DANZING ON TOUR
Billboard reports that Glenn Danzig is heading out on the road for a nine-date tour. The trek gets underway on June 15th in Norfolk, Virginia. The concerts are in support of Danzig’s latest album, Deth Red Sabaoth, which comes out on June 22nd. 

GREEN DAY WANTS TO ADD MORE TO ROCK BAND
Green Day: Rock Band came out this week and the trio has been talking a lot about the release of the video game. Although it features 47 songs from the band, singer Billie Joe Armstrong tells MTV News that they may add some older tracks to it. He says he’d like to see songs from their 1990 debut album 39/Smooth on there, as well as stuff from 1992’s Kerplunk. The cool thing about Rock Band is that songs can be added at anytime, so fans and the band will likely be happy to see the rockers reach into their back catalogue in the future.

BLACK SABBATH GO BABY!
Black Sabbath will be coming to a baby crib near you soon. The hard rock pioneers are the latest band to have their songs turned into soothing rock song instrumentals for a lullaby album. Ozzy Osbourne has commented on the recent deaths of musicians like Black Sabbath singer Ronnie James Dio and Slipknot bassist Paul Gray. According to Blabbermouth.net, the Prince of Darkness said, “Of late, everyone’s dropping dead… I’m only hoping my number doesn’t come up soon.” Ozzy went on to say he’s lucky to be alive because of his history with addiction, adding, “Ronnie James Dio didn’t have any problems, but when there’s drugs involved or alcohol, I should have died a thousand times.” 

OZZY UP FOR SABBATH REUNION
Ozzy Osbourne hasn’t ruled out a reunion with Black Sabbath. The Prince of Darkness told RollingStone.com, “I never say never anymore because you never know what’s going to come around.” Ozzy also stated, “I love those guys – Bill [Ward], Tony [Iommi] and Geezer [Butler].” Read more at RollingStone.com. 

ENGLISH COLLEGE NAMES AWARD AFTER OZZY
A Birmingham, England college has named an award after Ozzy Osbourne. According to the Birmingham Mail, the Ozzy Osbourne Development Award will be given to a student who has made the most progress on their Media and Communications (Music Industries) degree. Ozzy said he was “honored” to have the award at Birmingham City University named after him adding, “It’s great to support Birmingham and the future of the music industry.” Read more at BirminghamMail.net 

AC/DC CUT SHOW SHORT
AC/DC’s Sunday night gig in Oslo had to be cut short. According to Live Nation Norway, the Australian rockers had some plane troubles while leaving Berlin and it took some time to charter a flight to Norway. Because of the delay, the guys didn’t take the stage until 9:45. Since Oslo has an 11 PM curfew, the band only played for 90 minutes, saying goodnight to the 40-thousand fans at 11:15 after they performed “Highway to Hell.” 

ROBERT TRUJILLO HELPS HIS HERO 
The Weather Report’s Jaco Pastorius is thought to be one of the most influential bassists that ever lived and is a personal hero to Metallica’s bass guitarist Robert Trujillo. Since 1986, Jaco’s “Bass of Doom,” a 1962 Fender bass he customized and always recorded with, has been missing after it was stolen. Jaco passed away at 35 the next year and up until 2006, no one ever saw the “Bass of Doom.” That year though, it was located at a small New York City guitar shop, where the owner refused to give it up to Jaco’s family. A legal battle ensued and lasted for years until Trujillo learned about the instrument and helped make it possible for the Pastorius family to settle out of court and regain control of the “Bass of Doom.” Read all about the story at Metallica.com and find out more about Jaco and his bass at JacoPastorius.com.
