Weekends

Thanks to my mom and dad for raising me on Rock N Roll, I have ventured from Chicago to come rock out with the best of Iowa. If you're trying to find me outside the studio your best bet will be front row at a concert, behind a camera lens, or hidden away behind a book...and maybe a bar or two ;)

  • Now here's a cover I've never seen done before! This guy uses a glass harp to cover the title track from Metallica's most recent album, Hardwired to Self Destruct and it's slightly eerie. Now I want to know how you learn to play an instrument like this...

  • I love finding killer live videos of artists, especially ones I have never had the chance to see live. I managed to stumble upon this video of the Beastie Boys performing on Letterman in 1994!

  • When I was in high school I thought it would be fun to work at Best Buy (mainly for the discounts). I started working there spring time so Black Friday wasn't even on my mind. Then the dreaded day came. I was one of the lucky ones who didn't have to be there for the opening at Midnight, but I had to relieve those brave souls around 5am.

  • Youtuber Anthony Vincent is known for his Ten Second Song videos where he takes 10 songs and does them in a style of a specific band. This week he decided to tackle pop songs in the style of Metallica, and it's awesome. He covers tunes by Brittany Spears, Taylor Swift, Alanis Morissette, and some more popular tunes you've probably heard once or twice.

  • I remember on the holidays 10 years ago opening up Rock Band and my sister and I just going wild. Our parents raised us on Rock and Roll so this was the perfect game for some young rockers. You're able to have four players (vocals, guitar, drums, keyboard) so my mom would always play along with us and she ended up loving the game more than my sister and I. We would get home from school and my mom would instantly ask us if we wanted to go play Rock Band. I loved singing growing up so I always enjoyed taking the lead on vocals, but I think the drums were my favorite part to play. Ahhh the memories.

  • For some time now, videos have been surfacing around of people removing the instrumentals from songs and it's pretty fantastic. The latest one I have stumbled upon is Pearl Jam performing their hit Even Flow. The performance itself has to be from the 90's so just getting to see them on stage that long ago is awesome enough in itself.

  • FFDP is currently on a European tour alongside In Flames and Of Mice and Men. I always enjoying talking to artists about the differences they see in crowds in Europe compared to America and there is no questions that Europeans go crazy in the crowd.

  • If you were a 90's kid or had children in the 90's then you have to remember Tamagotchi's! They are these little egg shaped keychains that your own pet lives inside of virtually. You have to keep your pet alive by making sure they get food, water, and plenty of love.
