Slipknot's BEST Album 'Iowa' Is 19 Years Old!

By Tim Martin Aug 28, 2020 | 11:25 AM

Cause it is.

Iowa’s very own Slipknot churned out a metal monster with their first album, but freakin’ slayed our ears with their second one nicely named ‘Iowa.’ It was released this day in 2001.

With pressure from the label to create something a little more ‘softer’ and ‘radio friendly,’ Slipknot said they would and instead released probably the heaviest album a band could release instead of caving to what the label wanted. Songs like The Heretic Anthem, People = Shit, Left Behind, My Plague, Everything Ends…it’s just a punch to the face, gut, and back bone…it’s so f&^kin’ heavy.

This was actually my first experience with Slipknot. My friend Kyle on a burned CD had ‘Everything Ends’ on one of the tracks, and I thought it was funny! Like, what a ridiculous song and lyrics! I kept listening and listening and borrowing his mix CD during my High School classes and I’d keep hearing that song. It wasn’t until The Heretic Anthem popped up, and boom…I was a fan.

This album also spawned their DVD of ‘Disasterpeices’ which showcases the intensity that is Slipknot at one of their London show….it’s nuts.

Happy 19th Iowa m/
