Finish Him! Mortal Kombat is 28 Years Old!

MORTAL KOMBAT!

You know the name, you know the game, you know the shout….MORTAL KOMBAT!

28 years ago, the bloody mess that is Mortal Kombat hit arcades and single handedly redefined what we saw and could do in video games. During the time, there was Street Fighter which brought kids into the fighting video game world…but it was cartoony and not real by any means. Then along a game came named Mortal Kombat where they had real looking actors beating the crap outta each other and blood splattering with every hit. Something else though is what defined what this game was…

Fatalities.

A finishing move to rub your opponents face in by ripping out their spine, exploding their dead, lighting them on fire…it was glorious. While this is seemingly mainstay in games today, in 1992? This was unimaginable to see in a video game.

This game also has quite the elaborate history, which does include the US Congress!

I have loved the MK series ever since 1992 and have played nearly every game since the original. While for a moment the series got pretty tired, it was reinvigorated on the Xbox 360/PS3 and I have enjoyed it ever since.

All hail the original.
