You Know What Cedar Rapids/Waterloo Needs? A Dedicated Rock Venue

By Tim Martin Feb 19, 2021 | 1:12 PM

Iowa City has one, Waterloo did have one, Cedar Rapids though?

From what I have been told, Cedar Rapids used to be a hub of a couple different venues…but when the flood of 2008 showed up, it killed off those places. So my question is…

How come there isn’t another one?

There are some like Chrome Horse, Otis Tailgators, Iowa City there is Wildwood Saloon, and Spicoli’s in Waterloo fell to the pandemic (but are working hard to come back!) There is also the Power House’s (former US Cellular Center) Club 5 that can get some smaller shows….but not like a place that specializes in it.

Like a good 500-1200 seater with proper lighting, sound, open floor GA floor, etc.

A place that could book those smaller shows that can’t sell an entire arena! You can’t book Slipknot at a small venue anymore, but you could book a P.O.D, Sevendust, Pop Evil, GWAR, Starset, Bad Wolves, and others.

Here’s the thing though, running a venue is a BIG investment, which a lot of times you will not see a return on. Bands charge more to tour and it’s an expensive business to get into. So I GET why no one wants to jump right in, especially during a pandemic.

Just thinkin.
