“Sunday” Drives Are Making A Comeback

By Tim Martin Apr 6, 2020 | 11:33 AM

Did you and your family go on Sunday drives growing up?  My family did.  It was usually right after lunch.  Mom and dad would herd us kids in the car and we would take off on a random drive.  That tradition has stuck with me over the years, all the way up to this day.  Even before the world starting shutting down recently, I still went on aimless drives, and NOT just on Sundays.  I feel free while driving.  My car is a time machine catapulting me into the future and leaving the past in the rear view mirror.  Very liberating!

Now is the perfect time to go for an aimless drive.  Leave your GPS off, too.  It’s exciting not knowing what’s coming up.

I took the photo below on Saturday while going on an aimless drive for 2 hours.  The sun rays punching through the dark clouds made me feel powerful and grateful for everything in my life.  That’s the beauty of driving.  It can clean/clear your mind… if you let it.

On Saturday, I took off at 6:02 am.  I left my GPS off.  Every time I hit a crossroads, I’d say, “eenie meenie miney moe”.

After many back roads, I ended up in Newhall!

A bit later, I ended up in Blairstown!

The entire drive lasted around 2 hours, and then I went for ANOTHER drive that night haha.  I drove up to Central City and Anamosa!

Have YOU been enjoying aimless drives??
