Remember 'The Wheelhouse' in Cedar Falls?

Ever since I came to Rock 108 years ago, people have always told me about this venue that used to exist.

The venue was named ‘The Wheelhouse’ and it was located in Cedar Falls, IA on University Ave, pretty close to the campus of UNI. The Wheelhouse lasted for awhile and welcomed bands from Sevendust, Mushroomhead, Pop Evil, My Darkest Days, and the list could really go on. Chances are if you have been in Iowa for a lengthy period and enjoy concerts? You probably attended a few shows there!

Looking up some old articles from The Courier, The Wheelhouse closed in 2011/Early 2012 and man what a loss. For sometime, Spicoli’s/The Reverb has always been there alongside The Wheelhouse…but even now, Spicoli’s is on hiatus for now and fell victim to the pandemic. This pandemic is DESTROYING small venues….no live music means no revenue. I fear what my beloved ‘smaller venues’ will look like next year.

If you head on over to YouTube and type in ‘The Wheelhouse Cedar Falls,’ you’ll find a couple of videos of band performing there. The Wheelhouse also did have some good history with Rock 108, as seemingly the station was there promoting shows almost weekly! Man do I miss that….hanging with you guys, watching our favorite bands.

I miss live music, I miss going to a venue, I miss the feel the kick drum thumping against my chest…..ugh….we need a good concert.
