Is Trick Or Treating Happening In Iowa This Year?

By Tim Martin Sep 11, 2020 | 12:06 PM

I do wonder.

As a 33 year old becoming father, I am look incredibly forward to dressing my daughter up in a costume and bringing her around the neighborhood to go trick or treating! Hell if I could just do it and not look weird, I’d go trick or treating myself…free candy yo.

But with the COVID-19 pandemic, is it happening?

The city of Los Angeles, CA said that trick or treating and other Halloween activities are not recommended, and the Cedar Rapids Haunted Halloween Ball has been cancelled as well…so where does that leave the tradition of trick or treating?

As of right now, Linn County has no specific guidance, Dubuque County has SOMETHING coming, and Johnson County has developing guidance on the way.

Yesterday, Los Angeles County, California said trick-or-treating and other activities are not recommended. So what will Halloween look like here in Iowa?

I don’t have an answer, but what I have seen a couple of times is people building these cool PVC pipe tubes that when the kid comes to get candy, we put the candy in and it slides down into their bucket!

I LOVE that idea, and I might do it myself…I can decorate it with skulls and lights and it’ll be the Halloween Candy Chute!
