Korn’s Self-Titled Debut Album Turns 26-Years-Old

By Tim Martin Oct 12, 2020 | 3:54 AM

So was born nu metal on October 11, 1994.  That’s when Korn released their self-titled debut album.  They created a new sound in which many other bands were able to have a paved road to follow.

Korn is def one of my all-time favorite bands.  Their anger is just too raw to ignore.  That mixed with their heavy, melodic sound, gets me going every time I listen to them.  They’ve helped me through a lot of dark times, as I’m sure they have for MANY.

Munky said, “We were trying to sound like a DJ had remixed our guitars, y’know, and cutting them up and scratching.  That’s kind of how that sound was born.”

Jonathan Davis recently said, “I wasn’t a metal guy.  I liked metal as a kid, but then I got much more into Depeche Mode and Duran Duran. But I also liked aggressive industrial music, and I kind of wanted to bring those two worlds together… that total anger with a more emotional, melodic kind of thing.”

In 2008, Mitch Lucker, the late singer from Suicide Silence said ,“I f–kin’ loved the band from the moment I first heard them. There was so much anger in their music and they were so heavy. They didn’t sound like anyone else and then everyone copied them.”
